AQUAGIRL

"THE CAVE OF DEATH" is my favorite two-page superhero comic book story. Of course no other two-page superhero comic stories come to mind, so I suppose by default it has to be my favorite.

The story was published in Aquaman #56 in 1971. The script was written by Steve Skeates and the art was produced by Jim Aparo. Skeates was obviously setting up a future story about the "Cave" but #56 was the final issue of the series under its intended print run and so he never got the chance to do it. DC did revive the series in 1977 with six additional issues beginning with issue #57, but as far as I can tell the "Cave of Death" was never mentioned again.

In the early 1970's the Silver Age came to a close. I mostly stopped buying comics after that, especially superhero ones, but I did try to keep up with horror comics and any new bound reprint collection that was being published. But as far as superhero comics go I guess I'll always be just a DC Silver Age kid at heart. And with that being said you can imagine what I think of the new 21st century Aquaman.
